It’s not about taking photos, it’s about building memories
From the time you inquire about a session until your gallery is delivered, I strive to make you feel comfortable and at ease knowing your family, memories and investment are in good hands. My goal is to make your session as natural and carefree as possible and capture the real life emotions. Although posed photos are always necessary; the fun, playful and raw photos are even more important and tell your real family story.
The Willa Jo Style
My signature style is warm, yet bright and some might even say a bit creamy. I'm partial to the natural elements and natural settings, although a fun building or structure can really speak to me, too! I shoot during golden hour with the use of natural, golden light and really limit the use of artificial props (they are just not my thing!)
My sessions include a variety of photo opportunities capturing all the important, fun, serious, not-so-serious, big and small moments and everything in between. You can expect a wide variety of photographs with every session capturing the real you!
Style Guide
01.
Keep it Neutral
Neutral shades with a few pops of coordinating colors or patterns is always in style! Think earthy and muted tones.
02.
Choose You First
Start with the hardest to dress (usually the one booking the session), find something you love first and piece the puzzle together around your outfit. Getting everyone else set first can lead to you feeling like you have "nothing to wear" that coordinates well. Trust me, pick your outfit first!
03.
Coordinate, Don't Match
Go for colors that compliment each other (not matchy, matchy!) You could go for light blues, greys and blush; or brown, orange and burgundy; or denim, tan and olive - let Pinterest be your best friend!
04.
Make it Move! Maxi Dress, Flowy Dress, Pleated Skirt
Did I mention something flowy? ;) These photograph SO well and are so flattering! The movement adds an amazing dimension to photographs and acts as a natural "prop"!
05.
Avoid Distractions
Stay away from bright/neon colors and large logos. These cause distractions and unwanted reflections on the skin.
06.
Keep it Simple!
When all else fails, stick with solids - you can always make them more fun by including different textures like a flowy dress, chunky sweaters, a classic button up or lace or tulle!
07.
Still Stuck? Ask me!
If you're still feeling stuck, please let me know! I'd be happy to take a look at what you are started with and give suggestions to complete your look :)
